This summer, Rich and I are once again living and working in Yellowstone National Park, and every day seems to bring a new adventure. From steaming hot springs and colorful geysers to wildlife-filled valleys and mountain views that never get old, Yellowstone has a way of reminding us why we love being here.

Of course, no adventure is complete without a travel buddy.

Meet Guy the Bison.

Guy may be a stuffed animal, but he has quickly become part of our Yellowstone experience. Whether he's peeking out of a backpack, riding along in the van, or posing at some of the park's most iconic locations, he's always ready for the next stop. What started as a fun photo idea turned into a collection of memories that made us smile and gave us a unique way to share Yellowstone with all of you.

So grab your favorite beverage, enjoy the photos, and join Guy as he explores some of the most incredible places in and around Yellowstone National Park.

Guy started his adventure at Calcite Springs, where dramatic canyon views and steaming thermal features create one of Yellowstone's most unique landscapes. Standing high above the Yellowstone River, this overlook offers a reminder of the powerful volcanic forces that shaped the park.

Fun Fact: Calcite Springs sits along the Yellowstone River Canyon and showcases evidence of ancient lava flows and ongoing geothermal activity.

One of Yellowstone's lesser-known thermal features, Chocolate Pot gets its name from its rich brown color that resembles melted chocolate. Despite the appearance, Guy quickly learned this is definitely not dessert.

Fun Fact: The brown color comes from iron-rich minerals in the water, creating a unique feature unlike many of Yellowstone's more colorful hot springs.

With towering cliffs, rushing waterfalls, and stunning colors carved into the canyon walls, this stop left Guy speechless. The views here are some of the most iconic in the entire park.

Fun Fact: The canyon stretches approximately 20 miles long and reaches depths of more than 1,000 feet in some areas.

Few places in Yellowstone stop visitors in their tracks quite like Grand Prismatic Spring. The vibrant blues, greens, yellows, and oranges look almost unreal.

Guy was convinced someone spilled a giant box of crayons into the landscape.

Fun Fact: Grand Prismatic Spring is the largest hot spring in the United States and the third largest in the world.

While technically outside Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons were too beautiful for Guy to pass up. The jagged peaks create one of the most recognizable mountain skylines in North America.

Fun Fact: The highest peak in the range, Grand Teton, rises to 13,775 feet above sea level.

Known as America's Serengeti, Lamar Valley is one of the best places in Yellowstone to spot wildlife. Guy felt right at home surrounded by bison country.

Fun Fact: Lamar Valley is famous for wildlife viewing and offers opportunities to see bison, wolves, bears, elk, pronghorn, and more.

The terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs look like frozen waterfalls made of stone. Guy couldn't decide whether they looked more like a giant staircase or a natural sculpture.

Fun Fact: The terraces are constantly changing as mineral-rich water deposits travertine, creating new formations over time.

This stop may have been one of Yellowstone's strangest. Bubbling mud pots, hissing steam vents, and the unmistakable smell of sulfur make Mud Volcano a memorable experience.

Fun Fact: Mud pots form when acidic water breaks down surrounding rock into fine clay that mixes with water to create bubbling mud.

No Yellowstone adventure would be complete without a visit to Old Faithful. Guy patiently waited for the eruption and was rewarded with one of the park's most famous natural displays.

Fun Fact: Old Faithful erupts approximately every 60 to 110 minutes and can shoot water more than 100 feet into the air.

Just outside Yellowstone's eastern entrance, Cody offers a taste of the American West. Guy enjoyed the wide-open landscapes and western atmosphere.

Fun Fact: Cody was founded by legendary showman Buffalo Bill Cody and remains one of Wyoming's most famous western towns.

Standing quietly in Lamar Valley, Soda Butte is a reminder of Yellowstone's ever-changing geothermal history.

Fun Fact: Soda Butte was formed by mineral-rich hot spring activity and continues to be a popular landmark for visitors traveling through Lamar Valley.

One of our favorite moments from the entire series happened when Guy posed with a real bison herd in the background.

There's something special about seeing Yellowstone's most iconic animal in its natural habitat. It was a perfect reminder that while Guy may be stuffed, the real stars of Yellowstone are the wild animals that call this place home.

Fun Fact: Yellowstone is home to the largest continuously roaming bison population in the United States.

Tucked away along one of Yellowstone's scenic trails, Imperial Geyser was one of Guy's favorite discoveries. Unlike some of the park's more crowded attractions, this spot felt peaceful and a little hidden, making it feel like we had stumbled upon a secret corner of Yellowstone.

The crystal-clear blue water and surrounding thermal activity created a picture-perfect backdrop for Guy's latest photo session. Sometimes the lesser-known places end up becoming the most memorable.

Fun Fact: Imperial Geyser is known for its stunning blue pool and occasional eruptions. The geyser's vibrant color comes from the way sunlight reflects through the clear, mineral-rich water.

P.S. This is one of the most magical spots! The hike is a little on the long side but definitely worth it. One of our favorite locations in the park!

Trout Lake may not be one of Yellowstone's largest lakes, but it certainly packs a lot of beauty into a small area. After a short uphill hike, Guy was rewarded with a peaceful mountain lake surrounded by forest and reflections that seemed almost too perfect to be real.

This stop reminded us that not every Yellowstone adventure involves geysers or hot springs. Sometimes the quiet places leave the biggest impression.

Fun Fact: Trout Lake is famous for its clear water and native Yellowstone cutthroat trout. The lake is also a popular spot for wildlife sightings, including otters, bears, and birds of prey.

What started as a simple idea—a stuffed bison in a few vacation photos—turned into one of our favorite projects while living in Yellowstone.

Guy gave us an excuse to slow down, be creative, and find a little extra joy in places we've visited many times before. He reminded us that adventure doesn't always have to be serious. Sometimes it's about having fun, making memories, and seeing familiar places through a different perspective.
